Course Description

The Practical Nursing Program at MCCTC builds upon the proud tradition established by the Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing, which has trained generations of dedicated nurses since 1957. Hands-on, career-focused training helps prepare graduates for the NCLEX-PN licensing exam.

Nursing is one of the fastest-growing professions, and in less than one year you can be ready to pursue a rewarding healthcare career that offers competitive wages and the chance to make a difference every day. Practical Nurses are needed everywhere, whether it’s in a physician’s office, a hospital, a school, or an emergency room. Opportunities also extend to travel nursing, hospice care, theme parks, correctional facilities, insurance companies, and even resorts. Wherever healthcare is needed, Practical Nurses play a vital role in providing care, comfort, and support.

This full-time, 44 week, experiential program is a total of 1200 hours. The program requires American Heart Association BLS PROVIDER CPR certification as this prepares the graduate for a career in nursing. Both programs have breaks and holidays incorporated into the academic schedule. Following completion of the program, the graduate who has met the additional State Board of Nursing requirements is eligible to take the NCLEX-PN, a national licensing exam. After successfully passing this exam, the graduate is able to provide care as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN) within the scope of nursing practice as defined by the licensing state. Employment opportunities include hospitals, long-term care facilities, healthcare provider offices, clinics, schools, and home health care agencies, etc. Upon completion students also obtain a firm foundation in nursing, which enables graduates to pursue higher nursing education, if desired.
