MCCTC School Farm
MCCTC School Farm The MCCTC school farm was established in 2017 by a group of eager students and one very passionate teacher who wanted to do their part about the unhealthy things we put in our bodies these days. After researching and finding out what is found in the food we eat, the students in Mr. Cycyk’s 11th grade English classes decided to do something about it. They came up with a presentation to present to the School Board about planting a farm on school grounds. The School Board was very supportive and granted them permission to get the project started. Although it was suggested to start small, that was not in Mr. Cycyk’s nature. They decided to plant everything from carrots and cucumbers to watermelons and cantaloupes. They even planted a pumpkin patch! Throughout the summer staff and students did their part, and although there were some minor setbacks, over 2000 pounds of fresh produce was grown! The fruits and vegetables were used in the school cafeteria, the student operated restaurant, and by all those who volunteered their time. In the end those involved were able to see what could be accomplished with a little hard work and not being afraid to get dirty!
