If you have ever wanted to capture the beauty around you in a drawing, here is your opportunity to learn how to do just that. Whether you are a beginner or intermediate artist, this class will help you explore your creativity. Learn how to design detailed and realistic drawings by using both different grades of drawing pencils and blenders. Explore toning, shading and the use of different pencils to create textures for different subjects. Step-by-step instruction, in a pleasant and relaxed learning environment, will help you develop the confidence you need to work towards mastering the skill of drawing. A supply list will be mailed to you before class begins.

Pencil Drawing Supply List

 

  • Drawing paper (Strathmore Drawing Medium & Mead are two excellent brands, there are also other good brands to use)
  • Size 9×12 or 11×14 80 lb. comes in 12 or 24 sheet tablets
  • Pencils – Prismacolor Sketch Accessory Set. This set includes:
  • 3 Pencils – 8B – HB – 6H
  • Sanding Pad – Vinyl Eraser – Blending Stump
  • 2 Tortillons
  • As with Drawing Paper there are also other fine sets of Drawing Pencils available, such as Staedtler and Lowe Cornell
  • Pencils – Hard – 2H H F HB B 2B 6B – Soft
  • 12″ Ruler

 

Note: A blending Stump also known as a Tortillon is a very important tool when doing a drawing in pencil. This allows the student to blend and shade to achieve realistic results.

These are suggestions for supplies, but any combination of these or other brands will do.

Take time for yourself this year. Learning how to paint with watercolor is a beautiful, fun way to express yourself creatively. Designed for beginner and intermediate artists, this course will help you explore various techniques in watercolor, such as mixing colors, applying glazes, using the dry brush technique, wet on wet application, and lifting of paint from an area to achieve desired effect. Hands-on instruction in a relaxed environment will help you learn foundational skills, explore your artistic side and also teach you to embrace new techniques. Art is an adventure, and you are invited to explore with us as you learn the unique skill of painting with watercolor! A supply list will be mailed to you before class begins.

Watercolor Supply List

  • Watercolor Paper (Size 9×12) 140 lb. weight Cold Press Paper (Strathmore and Cottman by Windsor Newton are two excellent brands). NOTE: Paper to light (90 lbs.) will buckle and not allow students to achieve the desired effect.
  • Watercolor Paint (Tubes only). Colors needed include: Red, Yellow, Green, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre
  • Watercolor paint comes in sets. Sets include:
  • Niji (great for both beginners or advanced students
  • Thomas Kincade Watercolor Paint Set
  • Grumbacher and Windsor Newton
  • Brushes – Either a 1 or 1 1/2 inch Flat Brush
  • Round Brush (#8 or #6 Size), Round Brush (#4 Size), Liner or Detail Brush (Size #1)
  • Brushes also come in sets. (Brushes or very important, so stay away from cheap sets, as the bristles tend to come off while painting).

This is a new course, combining former courses Computer Basics and Windows 10, now Windows 11. If you are relatively new to using computers, or want to learn more about Windows 11, then this is the course for you. Some of the topics to be explored are: external and internal hardware, including modems, routers, and different type cables. Also, you will learn about browsers, search engines, portals, VPNs, and hyperlinks, and internet safety. You will be introduced to the Windows 11 computer home screen, surfing the Web, and working with files.

Microsoft Excel I

Microsoft Excel I empowers participants with key skills to create, design, edit, and print worksheets by using the formatting and page layout features. Learn basic calculations, formulas, and enhanced functions. Utilize the Quick Analysis Tool. Create data visualizations with conditional formatting, tables, charts, sparklines, and graphs. Sort and filter detailed data within tables. This course can be of great value for participants wishing to move their Excel skills to a higher level by learning how to create accurate and professional spreadsheets.

About the instructor: Krista McConnahey earned her bachelor’s degree in Comprehensive Business Education and her master’s degree in Instruction and Curriculum. She has been teaching business education at a local high school for over 20 years. Teaching Microsoft Office has been her passion to prepare individuals for the real-world situations at college, professional, and personal levels. She has Industrial Certifications in Microsoft Word, Word Expert, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook and has certified over 150 students in the same Microsoft Industrial Certifications.

Microsoft Excel II

This advanced course is for intermediate Excel users who want to take their spreadsheet skills to the next level. Learn advanced functions such as lookup, financial, what-if analysis, and nested formulas. Create Pivot tables, Slicers, and Pivot charts. Import data from other sources into an Excel workbook. Learn advance filters and sorting in tables to better organize information. Utilize the advance find and replace features to clean up data. Comprehend macros and the security of including macros in your workbooks. The purpose of this course is to give individuals the knowledge of the power of Excel. **If you did not attend the Microsoft Excel I course, please contact the Adult Career Center office to purchase the course book**.

Mallory Gavalier is a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in Northeast Ohio. She received her first Nikon as a gift in middle school, and her love for photography has never stopped growing since. She is completely self-taught and knows how it feels to not know where to start. Photography is truly a passion of hers and she loves helping others become comfortable behind the camera.

1. Graduate

  • Program Completion: Must have graduated from a Medical Assistant program at an NCCT-authorized school within the past five years.
  • Education: Must be a U.S. high school graduate or hold equivalent credentials (e.g., GED).
  • Documentation: Must submit a copy of your Medical Assistant diploma, certificate of completion, or transcript with graduation date. This includes U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship programs.

2. Experience

  • Work History: Must have one year of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant practitioner within the past five years.
  • Education: Must be a U.S. high school graduate or hold equivalent credentials (e.g., GED).
  • Employment: Must have one year of full-time employment or equivalent (2080 hours) as a Medical Assistant under the direct supervision of a certified/licensed physician or primary care provider within the past five years.
  • Documentation: Must submit a copy of your high school diploma (or equivalent) and the Medical Assistant Certification Qualification by Experience form completed by your employer.

3. Military

  • Training: Must have completed Medical Assistant training or its equivalent during U.S. Military service within the past five years.
  • Education: Must be a U.S. high school graduate or hold equivalent credentials (e.g., GED).
  • Documentation: Must provide a copy of a SMART transcript or DD214 indicating successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces relating to the discipline for which you are testing. The DD214 or SMART transcript must be current within the past five years.
