Local High School Students Explore Career Training During Immersive Tour Experience Held at MCCTC Adult Career Center

Canfield, OH – Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Adult Career Center

What comes after high school? That was the question posed to area high school juniors and seniors who were invited to explore career training options in a unique way when they visited MCCTC Adult Career Center on October 28. Attendees participated in the adult technical school’s first ever immersive tour experience. Students were placed in groups, viewed real-world scenarios, engaged in hands-on events and learned about training that the Career Center’s adult programs have to offer.

Students attended a breakfast meeting, then were immediately engaged with viewing everything from a live burn in the fire tower, where they got a chance to put out the fire, to the scene of a mock car crash and auto extrication with actors playing victims. The groups were then invited to the EMS and medical labs to see how paramedics, EMTs, Medical Assistants and Medical Office Specialists attend to a patient post-accident. Students also toured the working welding and automotive technology labs, followed by sessions with student services, financial aid, Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association and lunch. MCCTC Adult Career Center’s Recruiter and Marketing Coordinator, Jodi Glass stated “This was a jam-packed day full of opportunities for students to see how the Valley’s skilled tradespeople, healthcare workers and first responders serve the community on a daily basis. Our hope is that by offering interactive tours like this, we will help spark an interest in career training that can lead to a rewarding future!”
