Valley STEM + ME2 Academy students chosen for leadership program

The Leadership Mahoning Valley Youth program identifies high school sophomores and juniors in Mahoning and Trumbull counties who have demonstrated leadership potential.

CANFIELD — Three students from the Valley STEM + ME2 Academy have been chosen to represent the school in this year’s Leadership Mahoning Valley Youth program.

Noah Ramirez of Lowellville, Mikayla Serreccio of Austintown and Patrick Kelly of Canfield will be participating in the all-day retreat at the Holiday Inn in Boardman on Jan. 29, with four additional sessions in the upcoming months.

The Leadership Mahoning Valley Youth program identifies high school sophomores and juniors in Mahoning and Trumbull counties who have demonstrated leadership potential. The goal is to prepare these young people to someday provide the insight and foresight needed to lead the community, according to the organization's website. The Youth program provides opportunities to practice constructive leadership, committed involvement and responsible participation in the future of the community.

Students complete a four-month program that includes monthly daylong sessions that focus on issues of concern to the community, including health care, social services, education, heritage of the Valley, media, the arts, business opportunities and challenges, government and criminal justice.
