Seniors from the area attend MCCTC award ceremony

MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) - For thousands of area high school seniors this time of year marks a significant milepost in their lives -- graduation.

Close to 400 seniors from districts all around Mahoning County dressed in their local schools' caps and gowns for an awards ceremony for those who attend the Career and Technical Center in Canfield.

Superintendent Ron Iarussi says deciding to take classes there can be a tough decision, since many of these students have to leave their hometown classmates behind and give up many of the activities other high schoolers might experience.

"Its a real commitment on their part to come to the career center. But most of our kids that do come to the career center have a focus and they see kind of a light at the end of the tunnel because they know they're going to gain some skills they're going to be able to use to get a good job and become really productive members of society," Iarussi said.

We're told this is the first time administrators moved this ceremony to the Covelli Centre, because of the size of this year's class.
