MCCTC Enrollment Process FAQ
When can I apply to Mahoning County Career and Technical Center?
Students can complete the on-line application beginning in January of their sophomore year. Applications for this year open on January 6, 2020 at midnight. The application form can be found at by Click Here.
What are the minimum requirements to attend MCCTC?
Students will be accepted based on their score on the MCCTC Success Rubric. This rubric scores students on freshman year attendance, citizenship, number of credits earned, and attendance at MCCTC recruitment activities. Note that oversubscribed programs and programs with state licensing exams may have specific rubrics and acceptance criteria.
When will I know if I’ve been accepted to MCCTC?
Status notifications will be sent through email throughout the application process and a formal letter of acceptance, provisional acceptance, or waitlisted status will be sent out beginning in late February. What does provisional and conditional acceptance mean? Students will be placed in programs with final approval and discretion of the superintendent with one of the following three status rankings:
- Accepted - the student is guaranteed a seat so long as required paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
- Provisional Acceptance - the student is accepted but a team meeting is needed as the student is credit deficient and a plan is needed to close the student’s credit earnings gap.
- Waitlisted - there was not a spot available in the students first or second choice and they have been put on a waitlist. These students will be notified in the event a seat becomes available.
How can I increase my chances of being accepted?
Our goal is to help every interested student find a program that is well-aligned with their interests, skills, and future plans. Students who attend our recruiting events (Camps, Sophomore Visitations, Family Day, and Individual Tours), have good attendance and have earned the most credits during their freshman year have the best chance of getting accepted to MCCTC. Applying prior to February 21st also earns students bonus points on the rubric.
What is the deadline for applications?
Students will be ranked according to the MCCTC’s Student Success Rubric at the end of first semester. Applications will be accepted through the beginning of the school year based on availability in each program.
Besides the on-line application, what other paperwork needs to be completed for enrollment?
After receiving the provisional acceptance letter all students must complete required MCCTC medical and orientation forms before attending MCCTC.
Can a student with a higher rubric score that applies later in the year “bump” a student who has already been accepted?
No, once a student is accepted their spot is secure.
Can seniors enroll in a two-year program?
Only students who are juniors can enroll in an MCCTC two-year program. Exceptions may be made for students who are on an IEP based on the team’s recommendation.
