Health Science Tech Prep - Program Description

The Heath Science Tech Prep program provides students with classroom and "hands-on" training in many aspects of allied health. Students learn proper safety procedures, how to assess patient conditions and how to work as part of a team to promote the health of the patients. A significant portion of the learning occurs in clinical settings and at YSU.

Students in this program will learn:

  • Safety & infection control
  • Capillary & venipunctures
  • Medical terminology; anatomy & physiology
  • Clinical medical assisting skills
  • Patient assessment
  • Interpersonal & professional communications within the guidelines of medical law & ethics

College Connection

Health Science Tech Prep Higher Education Options

Hospital-based or college degree programs in fields of clinical laboratory technology, emergency medical services, nursing, respiratory care, physical or occupational therapy, exercise science and other health professions.

For all iCONS Academy students:

  • CPR/First Aid (1 credit)

  • OSHA 10 (1 credit)

  • **ELA 1 and 2, Stark State CCP>

  • **Calculus, Younstown State/Stark State CCP

  • **Statistics and College Algebra 1- YSU CCP

  • **Other electives are available for CCP as requested/student need

Health Science Students:

  • Phlebotomy (12 credits)

  • STNA (12 credits)

  • EMT (12 credits)

  • CPR (1 credit)

  • OSHA (1 credit)
