MCCTC Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Update: March 16, 10:00 PM:

First and foremost I would like to thank you all for your cooperation and patience this past week. Although this has been a trying time, we have all come together to do what is in the best interest of our students.

At this time, your child should have been in contact with their teachers via email and google classroom. For those that do not have access to the internet you will be receiving information by mail this week. Reminder… all students are responsible for all of their assignments.

Lastly, we have provided a list of resources including where our students can go to get breakfast and lunch everyday on our website. We encourage you to visit our website daily for updates and information.

Again, we appreciate your support during this time. As always, please feel free to reach out to myself or any other administrator with questions.

Thank you and have a great evening

Update: March 12, 2:06 PM:

Gov. Mike DeWine announced he will close all schools — public, private and charter — at the end of the day Monday until April 3. The closures do not include child-care facilities.
“We thought long and hard about that, and we understand the sacrifice this is going to entail, but this is the best medical advice we can get from people who study viruses,” DeWine said.

Update: March 12, 12:56 PM:

Message from the Superintendent.....

We have decided to have a waiver day for our staff tomorrow, Friday March 13. We are all trying to deal with the unique situation we are in and want to be prepared for our students in the event that we need to close for an extended period of time. We have encouraged our students to take home all necessary items that they may need in the upcoming weeks. Administrators and staff will be working tomorrow to put together more information and have a more concrete plan for our families moving forward.

Additionally, we still have no school on Monday, March 16 as a waiver day for our staff was already scheduled. At this time school will resume Tuesday, March 17th as currently scheduled.

We will continue to keep you informed as we learn of any new information.

Update: March 12, 12:00 PM:

School Closed March 13 and 16. Staff inservice will be moved to March 13.

Update: March 11, 2:00 PM:

We wanted to give you an update from MCCTC and Valley STEM in regards to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). The Mahoning County Superintendents met this morning along with representatives from the Mahoning County Health Department. After discussion with them and reviewing information provided by other sources, we will be continuing our current practices at both the MCCTC daytime and adult programming along with Valley STEM. Although we are continuing our current practices, we are evaluating all field trips, extra curricular, and other activities. We will determine cancellation procedures on a case by case basis based on the most current information provided. We will contact those affected by the cancellations directly. Additionally, we will be proactive in preparations just in case circumstances change, and IF we would need to evaluate further cancellations.

We are taking precautions as follows:

  • Scheduled inservice day to educate staff on Monday, March 16th to prepare for the possibility of online instruction (if this were to occur, there would be no school for high school students on this day, adult education classes will run as normal)
  • Cleaning the building each evening with additional sanitation each weekend for the foreseeable future.
  • Creating awareness through transparency among all organizations, staff, and students
  • Monitoring of Mahoning County Health Department, Center for Disease Control, and other state and national organizations

Once again, unless directed by local, state, or national public agencies to cancel, normal operations or activities we will proceed with educational activities as scheduled.
