Floral Design program

Program Description

"Enhance your naturally creative self" - Envision a future in floral production and design.

In the Floral Design program at MCCTC, you'll create designs for all occasions using both silk and fresh flowers; learn how to identify and care for cut flowers and indoor foliage plants; and practice the proper planting and propagation methods for greenhouse plants. Included in the Floral Design program instruction, you'll also learn about integrated pest management, earn your OSHA Certification, and experience what it’s like to be a retail florist through business management, customer service, and marketing courses.

Students in this program will learn:

  • Silk and Fresh Floral Design Techniques
  • Cut Flowers and Indoor Foliage Plants - I.D. and Care
  • Integrated Pest Management and OSHA Certification
  • Green House Planting and Propagation Methods
  • Retail Florist - Business Management, Customer Service & Marketing

Higher Education Options

Certifications, two and four-year degrees are available from several local universities. Degrees may be obtained in Floriculture Design & Marketing, Greenhouse Management & Production, Horticulture, Plant Pathology and Entomology.

Industry Organization

The FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) is a national youth organization dedicated to preparing members for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. Local, state and national activities and award programs provide opportunities to apply knowledge and skills acquired through agriculture education. The Ohio FFA Association has 24,800 members in 308 chapters throughout Ohio.
