About Us
Mahoning County Career & Technical Center
is centrally located within the District, in
Canfield on Palmyra Road, north of Route
224. The school offers a variety of career
and technical programs to students in the 13
affiliated school districts.
There is also an open- enrollment agreement
that allows students from outside the
District to attend. Most students, with the
exception of some students in College Tech
Prep, spend the entire day at MCCTC, and
there are other options available.
Many MCCTC programs offer work-study,
apprenticeship or internship possibilities.
Students also have opportunities to visit
the plants and offices of local employers
and meet with experts in their field.
Application Procedure
Applications are available from a student’s
home school guidance counselor, at the MCCTC
Guidance Office and on the MCCTC website,
www.mahoningctc.com.
Students apply for admission to MCCTC
through their home schools. All juniors and
seniors in the 13 participating home school
districts are eligible. Applications will be
accepted for all programs until the program
is filled, but some programs fill very
quickly, so students should apply as early
as possible for the program
EQUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY
In compliance with (1) Title VI of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964 (2) Title IX of the
Education Amendments of 1972, (3) Section
504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and
(4) the OCR Vocational Education Guidelines,
we are notifying all students, parents,
employees and the general public that the
Mahoning County Career & Technical Center
District has adopted a non-discrimination
policy on the basis of race, color,
handicap, gender, ancestry, national origin,
disability, or social or economic
background. Any complaint regarding this
non-discrimination policy should be referred
to the Career & Technical Director, Mahoning
County Career & Technical Center, 7300 North
Palmyra Road, Canfield, Ohio 44406 - Phone
330-729-4000.
The Faculty
MCCTC career-technical teachers are experts
in their field, and combine college
education and actual work experience in the
area they teach. Additionally, MCCTC
academic teachers are fully certified in
their specialty, and hold bachelor’s or
master’s degrees.
Advisory Committees
The General Advisory Committee is comprised
of a representative from each of the 13
affiliated school districts. It provides an
avenue for communication between the
community and home school, assists in job
placement and reviews school activities.
Each career and technical program has a
Program Advisory Committee made up of
employers, graduates, parents and those who
work directly in the field. The members
review curriculum, provide information to
keep instructional content current, assist
in job placement, make recommendations for
new equipment and keep the school aware of
innovative developments in the field.
Required Courses for Graduation
MCCTC offers an extensive complement of
courses from advanced to remedial that
enable a student to meet all graduation
requirements.
These courses include English 9–12, algebra,
geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, advanced
placement (AP) courses, biology, physics,
chemistry, psychology, American government,
world history, American history, economics,
sociology, computer literacy and many
others. Students
should check with the MCCTC Guidance Office
regarding credit
offerings to meet individual circumstances.
Graduation
Upon successful completion of the
career-technical and academic courses, and
after fulfilling all graduation
requirements, MCCTC students attend their
own high school graduation ceremonies and
receive a diploma from their home schools.
At the MCCTC Senior Awards Assembly,
students also receive a career-technical
certificate and a Career Passport. A Career
Passport shows the specific employability
and career skills the student possesses, and
contains a résumé, an endorsement from the
MCCTC superintendent, a summary of the
student’s activities, and attendance and
achievement records.
College Credit
MCCTC has agreements with a variety of
post-secondary institutions that allow
students in several career and technical
programs to earn college credit for high
school course work.
Fees
Tuition is free for students in the 13
participating school districts. Most
programs, however, do require the purchase
of some tools and/or uniforms. Scholarships
and payment plans are available to students
who may be unable to pay these fees.
Apprenticeships
Students at MCCTC can gain valuable
employment skills, earn money while learning
and acquire training toward apprenticeship
certification.
Student Services
• Job Placement: An MCCTC job placement
coordinator works closely with employers to
determine their employment needs, promotes
MCCTC students and keeps track of all MCCTC
students who are looking for work. Employers
frequently call MCCTC when they have job
openings. MCCTC students also learn
job-seeking skills, interview tips and
résumé writing as part of their training at
MCCTC.
• Guidance & Counseling: The Guidance
Department is organized to provide an array
of services, including orientation,
placement, counseling, referrals, individual
and group assessment, management and
administration, programmatic implementation
and consultation. The Guidance Department is
staffed by trained, certified counselors who
are able to provide the comprehensive
guidance services needed for a diverse
student population.
• Proficiency Tests and Ohio Graduation
Tests: MCCTC has a highly successful track
record in preparing students to pass any or
all parts of the tests required for high
school graduation.
Resource Center/Library
The MCCTC Resource Center/Library is
equipped with networked computers that
include several CD-ROM reference databases
and popular software applications. It also
contains periodical titles and more than
5,500 hardcover and paperback volumes.
Transportation
Home schools transport students to and from
MCCTC, with the exception of Tech Prep
students who provide their own
transportation. Other students may drive if
they are in compliance with all
school regulations.
Home School Extracurricular Activities
MCCTC students can and do continue to
participate in sports and other
extracurricular activities at their home
schools.
Student Activities at MCCTC
In addition to home school extracurricular
activities, students can become involved in
MCCTC activities. Among the many clubs and
organizations for MCCTC students are
Business Professionals of America; FFA;
Family, Career and Community Leaders
of America; and SkillsUSA-VICA. MCCTC also
has a local chapter of Key Club, an active
Student Council and a chapter of the
National Vocational-Technical Honor Society.
